Στην έκθεση απεικονίζονται το τοπίο και η ζωή των Κάτω Μερών της Τήνου, που πηγάζουν από τα μεσαιωνικά χρόνια, και μεταμορφώνονται με την καλλιτεχνική ματιά σε έναν ταπεινό παράδεισο. Οι φωτογραφίες αναδεικνύουν αυτό το «χειροποίητο νησί» μέσα από καμπυλωτές πεζούλες, ατέλειωτους πέτρινους τοίχους, κυκλικά αλώνια και τετραγωνισμένα χωράφια. Τα πορτρέτα της, αποτυπώνουν συμπονετικά τη σκληρότητα της ζωής των χωρικών και  απεικονίζουν με τρυφερότητα τα ζώα, συντροφιά αναπόσπαστα συνδεδεμένη, με την ευημερία των αγροτών. Προχωρώντας πέρα από τη συμβολική απεικόνιση της Τήνου, η Κουμαντάρου κινείται προς το αφηρημένο. Αρχικά αφαιρώντας το πλαίσιο και στη συνέχεια και τις απτές λεπτομέρειες, μετατρέπει καμάρες και κατώφλια, γωνίες και παράθυρα, από αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία, σε επιφάνειες όπου σκοτάδι και φως αιωρούνται σε μία εύθραυστη ισορροπία.

A Humble Paradise (19/12/19 – 09/02/20, opening 18/12/19)
This photographic exhibit first explores the landscape and rural life of the Kato Meri of Tinos a remnant from medieval times that is transformed into a humble paradise through artistic eyes. Coumantaros depicts the remnants of this ‘handmade island’ through its undulating terraces and its dry stone-walls that delineate circular threshing floors and patchwork fields; her portraits of the villagers compassionately suggest the harshness of rural life, while farm animals are captured in moments of lyrical pose. But after Coumantaros hovers in figurative depiction of Tinos, she moves toward abstraction. At first eliminating context and then even tangible details, Coumantaros renders arches and doorways, corners and windows not as structures in a vernacular architecture, but rather as sources of darkness and light, poised in a delicate balance. Sensual forms emerge out of the shadows and in the new equilibrium that gives solace to the soul, it becomes apparent gradually, image by image, that the humble paradise one searches for outside, may also be contained within.
